SBL RULES AND PROCEDURES

Stafford Baseball LeagueRules & Procedures:

Babe Ruth Baseball League plays under the regulation baseball rules of professional baseball which are established by the Official Playing Rules Committee. Babe Ruth baseball has made specific modification to the official rules specific to the various age groups within Babe Ruth Baseball. Babe Ruth Baseball rules are not available online and are published each year a rule book which Stafford Baseball issues to every umpire and team manager.

Stafford Baseball will use the official Babe Ruth Baseball League rules for all divisions with modifications to those rules as approved by the Board of Directors of Stafford Baseball. Where there is a conflict with any other baseball rules SBL house rules will apply. The house rules can be found in Section 15 of the SBL Procedures.

The prime consideration of the SBL program is the welfare of the youth involved. These rules are a reflection of this policy even though they may differ from those accepted by any other baseball programs. On the occasion that a situation may arise that is not specifically or generally covered by these rules SBL officials will take such action as deemed necessary to allow the program to function with this prime consideration in mind

Rules Regarding Pets at SBL Events:

While SBL strongly discourages bringing any animals to our events, Stafford County Parks and Recreation and Stafford County Public Schools govern this. Violation of these rules could result in civil and/or criminal penalties.

Per Stafford County Parks and Recreation Rules and Regulations: No person shall have within a park, any animal that is not controlled by a cage or leash. No person shall ride a horse in any park. Animals/pets are not allowed at Aquia Landing.

Per Stafford County School Board Bylaws, Policies, and Regulations, Community Use of School Facilities: Dogs, or other domestic animals, and the unauthorized riding of horses, shall not be permitted on school property.

Inclement Weather Procedures:

During inclement weather SBL will post field closures as we receive that information from Stafford County Parks and Recreation. If inclement weather occurs during or shortly prior to scheduled games the decision to play is left up to the SBL coaches and umpires on the field. Up to game time it is the home team manager's decision to play. Once the game begins it is up to the sole discretion of the umpire whether or not to continue. The ONLY factor considered is the safety of the children. If there is lightening or the field becomes a safety hazard the game will be called. If there is simply a light rain or damp conditions most likely your game will still be played. Do not assume your game is cancelled because of rain.
